  • Contract size

The specific amount of an asset or commodity deliverable per futures or options contract. It plays a crucial role in understanding the dollar value of a point move in the commodity or asset being traded. For instance, crude oil futures have a contract size of 1,000 barrels. So, one futures contract for crude oil represents 1,000 barrels. Similarly, gold futures have a contract size of 100 ounces. For instance, if the contract size for crude oil futures equals 1,000 barrels and the oil price grows from 50 to 51 USD per barrel, then the total dollar value of the futures contract would increase by 1,000 USD.
