Candlestick chart
Is a type of chart that displays high, low, open and close prices for a period of time. The wide part of the candlestick shows whether the closing price was higher or lower than the open price. The former is referred as to Bullish candlestick and the later is called Bearish candlestick.

CBOE Volatility Index
The volatility index of the Chicago Board Options Exchange that tracks the market expectation of 30-day volatility. It's meant to be forward-looking and is based on the implied volatilities of a wide range of S&P 500 Index options. Also, VIX, Volatility Index, and Fear Index. -
Central bank
Is a bank, which is responsible for managing a country's monetary system. Central bank is involved into the process of currency stabilization, maintaining low inflation and keeping full employment. It also issues currency, acts as the bank of the government, regulates the credit system, as well as controls commercial banks. -
Chart
Is a graphical representation of prices over a set period of time used for technical analysis. MT4 and MT5 have 4 types of chart available: line chart, bar chart, tick chart and candlestick chart. -
Chart pattern
Is a distinct formation on a chart that creates a trading signal or indicates the further price movement. -
Chunnel

Closed position
Is a transaction that leaves the trade with a zero net commitment to the market with respect to a trading instrument. -
Closing order
is an opposite transaction to opening a position. A trader closes a short position by buying the same instrument, or closes a long position by selling it. -
CNY
Currency symbol for the Chinese yuan renminbi. Renminbi is the actual name of the currency (just like sterling for GBP), and a unit of renminbi is a yuan. -
Coincident indicators
Metrics that show policymakers make sense of the current state of the economy for a given country or nation. Coincident indicators include the gross domestic product (GDP), employment rate, real earnings, and average weekly hours worked in manufacturing. They are often used together with leading and lagging indicators to show a complete picture of the past, present, and possible future state of the economy. -
Commission
Is a service fee charged by the broker from the client. It can be applied to deposit or a withdrawal of funds, opening or closing a position, or holding overnight positions. We do not charge any of these fees. Our trading commission is included in the spread as a markup on Octa MT4 and Octa MT5 accounts. -
Commodities
Are goods that are traded over an exchange, including hard commodities (gold, silver, platinum, crude oil) and soft commodities (wheat, corn, coffee, sugar). -
Commodity channel index (CCI)
A technical analysis indicator identifying cyclical trends in commodities and other assets. It measures the difference between the current and average prices over a given period. The CCI oscillator fluctuates above and below a zero line, indicating overbought and oversold conditions. Traders use CCI to identify buy and sell signals, divergence, and trend strength. -
Consumer price index (CPI)
An indicator that measures the change in inflation from a specific date in the past. Essentially, CPI = inflation. Inflation/CPI numbers are very important because most central banks have inlfation targets, which they plan to achieve over the long term. To achieve the inflation targets, central banks use monetary policy intruments, like policy rate changes. Thus, it is safe to assume that inflation drives interest rates changes. Also, harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP). -
Contract size
The specific amount of an asset or commodity deliverable per futures or options contract. It plays a crucial role in understanding the dollar value of a point move in the commodity or asset being traded. For instance, crude oil futures have a contract size of 1,000 barrels. So, one futures contract for crude oil represents 1,000 barrels. Similarly, gold futures have a contract size of 100 ounces. For instance, if the contract size for crude oil futures equals 1,000 barrels and the oil price grows from 50 to 51 USD per barrel, then the total dollar value of the futures contract would increase by 1,000 USD. -
Conversion Rate
A ratio that shows how much currency is required to buy something in another currency. For example, let's assume that the conversion rate of the AUDUSD equals 1.10. This means that 1 Australian dollar is worth 1.10 U.S. dollars. Also, Exchange Rate and Spot Price. -
Copier
Is a client who copies the trades of other traders (Masters) via Octa Copy. -
Copytrading commission
Is a Master Trader’s remuneration charged to the Copier for trades copied via Octa Copy. Master Traders can set any commission amount for copying their orders, from 0% to 50% of the Copier’s gain. -
Correlation
The relationship of two separate financial instruments. They can be positively correlated, when both prices move together in the same direction, or negatively correlated, when they move in the opposite directions. -
Counterparty
Is the other organization or party with whom the exchange deal is being transacted. In other words, every buyer must be paired with a seller in order to perform a transaction. -
Cross rates
Are the rates between two currencies that are based on the price of each of them against a third currency. -
Cryptocurrency
A new digital currency based on blockchain technology, which provides secure, decentralised and anonymous transactions between clients. -
Currency
Money issued by a nation's government that comes in coins and notes. -
Currency pairs
The quotation of one currency opposed to the other, for example, EURUSD, NZDCAD. The first currency is called the base currency, and the second one—the quote currency. When opening a Buy order, you buy the Base Currency and sell the Quote Currency. For a Sell order, it is the opposite: you sell the base currency and buy the quote one. -
